Sensei Ruth Gates is the head instructor of the new Zentokukai dojo in Hawaii on the island of Oahu. Sensei Gates became a researcher for the University of Hawaii in 2003. She works and teaches Karate at the Hawaii Institute of Marine Biology at Coconut Island. Sensei Gates has been studying Karate for 13 years under Sensei Angel Lemus.

Coconut Island has a very interesting history, it was the island shown on Gilligan's Island show intro. It is a private island owned by the University with restricted access.
